I heard about this new album “Nostradamus” coming out… a concept album. 2 CD’s… being hailed as a “Masterpiece”. Just like everyone else, I heard the promo track “Nostradamus” on the internet and was banging my head and thrusting my horns. On top of that, being somewhat fascinated by ancient prophecies and Nostradamus my interest really started to grow, and upon it’s release I bought my first ever Judas Priest record - and what a record it is! If you take this at face value for what it is, then you can really appreciate the greatness of this album. (more…)

It was rather surprising that Septic Flesh (now Septicflesh for some reason) disbanded after releasing probably their best album since their debut in Sumerian Daemons. Now, five years later, they re-emerge into the metal scene with their own, rather unique take on bombastic orchestrated death metal. (more…)

I got this album a little while after it was released and I was pleased to hear that Norther is still kicking ass and calling names.
I am very impressed with the way the band has matured over the past years. Now I know some of you are going to read this review and yes you will label some songs as fillers. To me though, all the songs on here flow well and really outline what I call metal. From the start to finish there is an array of soft and fast songs. (more…)

I was very intrigued when I was oferred the review of this new Abigail material. And I wasn’t disappointed. It’s maybe a better feeling when you discover that bands from your own country can make such music, than when you listen to albums from bands that have already established themselves worldwide. My only objection is that somewhere in the production process, a few mistakes were made which don’t let the listener fully enjoy the vocals. They are somehow buried under all the other instruments and the whole atmosphere, and it’s a shame because we would’ve had what to listen to from Corina. (more…)

Last Thursday (13th Dec) was a no miss for all hardcore fans. After an year of absence from the Bucharest concert area, ALTAR had come back.
Suburbia Club was not so full before the opening acts. However the crowd got bigger as First Division and Proof made themselves heard. Moshing, headbanging, pogo with a little help from Proof’s lead singer warmed up the spirits for ALTAR.

Yes, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Mike Lerner’s DIREWOLF project, I’ve heard Zeleny’s drumming on BLOTTED SCIENCE’s The Machinations of Dementia, I’ve even listened to the Nano-Nucleonic Cyborg Summoning EP but nothing could really prepare me for this. So much so that I had to listen to the record at least five times before deciding I actually like it, and dozens of times before writing this review. (more…)

Time for another Romanian release. It’s not that I’m trying to support the local scene - I just happened tu stumble upon a young band called SPIRITUAL RAVISHMENT that’s releasing an EP (somewhat interestingly called And When the Earth Will Claim Your Limbs Then Shall You Truly Dance) right now, and I was pleasantly surprised. The new AMORPHIS album and second release with vocalist Tomi Joutsen comes a year and a half after their previous record, “Eclipse”. This somewhat short amount of time didn’t predict a continuance of the style we found on “Eclipse” as we are talking about a band that has been relentlessly changing its style with each album for the past 12 years. It seems though that AMORPHIS finally found what they were looking for. The style of their previous album is kept on “Silent Waters”. It’s like part II of the story, like “Eclipse” was the fire and “Silent Waters” what else but the water. They are similar, yet the mood is completely antagonistic. (more…)

It’s about time that a Romanian release is reviewed here. No, I’m not going to start ranting about the metal scene in my native country, let’s just say that albums, especially good ones, are few and far between. Lately, however, several up-and-coming bands have started to make their presence felt. Does their debut EP, Autopsy of Hope, make SPECTRAL one of them? Read on and find out. (more…)
